Which Waste Sacks & Carrier Bags Should I Buy To Be Green?

I know buying a recycled plastic bag is a good thing to do, especially if like the Green Sack brand it’s made from UK agricultural farming film waste, but don’t be confused. Many products have recycled signs on them whether they are merely recyclable after use or made from a percentage of recycled material that could have been shipped across the world. Be sure what you want & check the credentials from your supplier. Be clear about how much is and where the recycled bit came from if you really care about these issues. There are a few options when it comes to buying more environmentally kinder bags and a couple have their place, it just depends on how you are disposing of them once they are full. So in an effort to help here are my summations:- Why buy a Vegetable Starch or Paper Material Made bag? Answer:- For Composting Bins & Sites Starch from say a potato or corn maze base ingredient create a super more pliable sack. Companies such as Biobag have a great looking and high performance sack range which are strong and certified bio-compostable for sites. If you are collecting food waste from a kitchen or manufacturing production area to go to a composting site or have compostable food to go packaging then these bags are ideal. You may also wish to use a paper Kraft non bleached bag such as the Alina Brand who make a reasonable product but lower on wet strength if disposing a lot of fruit & vegetables of course. Why Buy A Recycled Plastic Bag? Answer:- For Council Land Fill Bins If you are giving them to your council to land fill, then I have been told that bags that break down create issues. The degrading or dissipation of sacks leads to unstable ground at the land fill site & the release of toxins. Presumably if the council decide to allocate the land for building & development in the future this can cause issues. Having solid entombed waste acting as foundation blocks is better so I was led to understand. Whether that changes who knows, but it certainly sounds plausible as much as it pangs the greener side of us. As we should be aiming to recycle up to 90% of our waste this will become less of an issue and we will find a positive location and use for the 10% landfill one would expect as the waste issues mean no alternative. The good news I read recently on social media is that some local councils have reported people are now recycling the recyclables more than land filling them as the habit becomes second nature. Why Buy A Virgin Degradable Blend Film Polythene Bag? Answer:- For General Waste on Advice or Food packaging The Virgin pure film ingredient that is biodegradable will break down when it is old enough typically about 1-2 years or it comes under increased temperature in landfill or direct sunlight say in the open. Unfortunately the product actually breaks down but leaves millions of tiny bits of product as I found out to my misfortune a few years ago when I opened an old box I had in my warehouse. This concerns me and I know others as potentially this may or may not be harmful or if not harmful cause issues to wildlife and residual long-term waste challenges. For waste use, the bag will break down and let the insides degrade, which is good, but why not use a product that breaks down 100% such as the starch products apart from of course the cost factor. Cost is always an issue for the bulk users and may well explain the large consumption of these by councils and large plastic bag printers. The use of these for food bags of course is arguably the better of two evils against non degradable food bags. Why Buy A Pure Virgin Blend Plastic Bag? The key justification is for edible food packaging due to possible contamination from recycled content. Their use as rubbish waste sacks in my view is that they should be deposed by UK recycled content waste sacks to ease the plastic waste issues. There is a company that makes a virgin film bag and call it greener because it uses less film to attain the same strength, but that’s like a cigarette with less tar, you still have a problem! I hope that makes the matter clearer for you to achieve the results you wish. 5 Easy Ways To Reduce Toxicity Chemical Waste Pollutants At Home & Work (And Prevent The Effects They Are Having On Our Marine Life).

Here is the list of 5 really easy ways to go toxic free as far as practically possible at home and in your business. BUT WHY HAVE WE GOT TO? Our water authorities, waterways & beaches are losing the battle with the effects of the toxic chemicals being put down our drainage systems. We can turn this around if we follow the rapid development of areas such as recycling. Mother Nature will help us if we help ourselves. The marine environment is suffering, the ecosystem is being dramatically changed. It's only just being understood that the gender of fishes is being altered and disease to our Dolphin and Orca populations is on the increase as a result of chemical waste deposits. See The Marine Conservation Society's website & Surfers Against Sewage's for more detail. Change the following if you haven't already to make a massive difference to your personal, family & work place impact on our environment: 1. Change your Laundry Washing Products to Phosphate Free formula ranges & don't forget if you have a Dishwasher and/or a Cabinet Glass Washer unit, products are available without phosphates and other toxic chemicals harmful to aquatic life. 2. Stop using very toxic oven cleaning items. Use a Stainless Steel Scouring Ball & A Citrus or Natural Based Degreaser to clean the oven, hob & trays. By using the effective steel scouring with hot water you will remove the majority of the carbon deposits. If you wish to presoak items make up a formula about 20 parts hot water to 1 part detergent to help break down the carbon grease before scouring. Be aware of disposal of large quantities of grease you may be able to water your garden and this could provide a great food source for birds or plants. 3. Use natural toilet & washroom cleaners and if you suffer from water scale deposits particularly in the dark blue areas of the map image, only buy products with Citric and/or Phospheric Acid water scale removers in avoid Hydrochloric based products. The harder the water the more chemicals typically people buy to counter the problem. 4. Regularly Maintain Drains & Plug Holes with natural cleaners such as 1/2 Cup Baking Soda & 1/2 Cup Vinegar then leave for 15 minutes and wash through with boiling water. Instead of waiting until it clogs totally and needs toxic sulphuric acid unblockers, regular maintenance will reduce this. There is also a new Probiotic technology drain maintainer called FOG Buster by a Bath based company called Eco-Works which will eat away fats, oils and greases in sink pipes and this is 100% chemical free. In showers and baths where hair gathers make sure you fit a trap to stop the hair etc. entering the waste pipe. 5. Wash your car with Non Toxic Vehicle Wash Products and your Patio & Outside Furniture too. Again you can use the Citric based product mixed with a little washing up liquid or source a natural car washing product. Using the correct brush or cleaning material will do most of the work for you when cleaning. Finally when you have found products you like and they work and you discover that we never needed the chemicals in the first place tell somebody else and buy them the product and show them that it works. Other quick wins are using a microfibre based range of cleaning cloths, mops & tools which can remove the need for over 75% of chemicals in cleaning. Use water as much as possible instead of cleaning detergents as it will in many cases do the job. Try to buy fluids in larger containers and then re-use the cleaning trigger spray bottle to reduce disposal of plastics. It also reduces fuel use for shopping and saves a fortune. What's Best Recycled or Sustainable Paper Pulp?

What do you buy to be green and achieve your environmental wishes? It's a tough decision as there is alot of free advice and opinion out there and some of it very conflicting and confusing. The quality of recycled paper has risen these days to like for like with sustainable pure pulp paper and so the choice comes down to the belief and price needs of the buyer. To recycle and produce a clean white pulp for copy paper or luxury toilet tissue takes a lot of energy and thousands of litres of water in the process. The idea of using old paper in the production of new is justifiable but to remove the inks and impurity's as you can imagine is not easy if you want snowy white paper. There are many other uses for this waste and indeed recycled non pure white products have there place where less energy and waste is needed to produce such as packaging, fillers & heavy duty hand towels. Producing a pure pulp can use much less energy and when a forest is managed correctly, which everyone I have investigated is now, the process is sustainable and beneficial to the planet. Removing a tree and then planting back in its place fast growing CO2 hungry younger one's is a much clearer idea of a sustainable planet to me. You can see many examples of great planting and manufacturing programs from producers such as Kruger Tissue Group and SCA these companies show that you can produce large volumes of paper in a clean beneficial way in all stages of the process. So for me recycling has its place but consumers also have their wishes and where a clean quality product is desired the mass market should be served with a sustainable solution and where the need is less cosmetic we can use our recycling processes as energy & waste efficient as possible to produce just an optimum product to do the job. Online Store Sales of Cleaning, Maintenance & Safety Products Proving Successful

I have been more than encouraged by the steady growth of the online sales since we launched our Amazon and eBay stores. It takes alot of time and systematic input but with the regular daily sales reaching over 100 per month now we know this is only going one way. Amazon fee's are a little high compared to eBay but we have to have a presence on both forum's. We have recently also engaged with faceboom about their new store facility Beugle so we hope that to be another route to market. It is also notable that probably as a result of this our own website has generated more orders from our shop. Eco friednly cleaning products & supplies and our other professional cleaning products prove to be a hit in these forums but the key is content then of course value in delivery.  The Cornish Curry Company is a great little business and I was interested to read the frustration on their website about the lack of support from larger businesses in Cornwall in supporting the stocking of their world class product, I am sure in time the good will out!
